Beautiful Beginnings
What your baby wants you to know

When I cry, it means I need you. If you respond quickly, it helps me learn to trust you.
Please change my position or surroundings , so I can look at different things.
Hold me and walk around and tell me the names of the things I will be seeing so I can start to get familiar with my surroundings.
Sometimes too much noise or too much excitement upsets me. Please notice when I'm tired and no longer want to play. Swaddle me and put me in a quiet place for awhile.
Don't be afraid of spoiling me, it helps me to grow when you hold me close, smile and talk gently to me.
Please talk and read to me and imitate me when I make sounds. You are helping me learn how to communicate. By mimicking me you reinforce my attempts to communicate.
I feel comforted when you talk or read to me in a calm, soft, soothing voice.
